If your real estate website is not generating leads, it most likely is because it's position with the search engines is so far down the ladder that no one ever gets to find it! When you do a search on the Internet, if what you're looking for is not in the first three pages or 60 results, you give up, right? The Promise: These companies who promise search engine optimization for realtors say they will submit your site to hundreds if not thousands of search engines. The Reality:Over 85% of the traffic comes from Google, Yahoo, and MSN. So... if you can satisfy Google, Yahoo, and MSN, you're well on your way. If you include AOL, Alta Vista, Inktomi and Ask Jeeves and Teoma, your site will most likely be listed in all the smaller search engines as well. Here are a few basic facts regarding Search Engine Optimization for Realtors: The more incoming real estated related links = More Value = Higher ranking. An excellent place to start might be here at
Value Exchange.

Optimizing any web site for the search engines involves many aspects of developing the site itself. The domain name, page content and keywords, including the file name of the pages. Every element of the site is involved. (The Video Action Guide is an excellent resource ... and it's FREE.) The first element the search engine looks at is the name of the domain. The domain name www.chicagorealestate.com gets points for many of the popular search phrases for real estate in Chicago (Chicago real estate) whereas www.joesmithey.com will not. The use of a page address such as www.chicagorealestate.com/buyer-mistakes.html is a strong optimization trick as well. Hidden elements such as the html page title and the description meta tag are also important elements. Remember... the actual page content is read by the search engine spider and must include keywords and phrases. Paragraph headers must include keywords and the navigation links should be text links that the spider can read. Keywords within the navigation links can also earn points. Although I am a Realtor, I am by no means an expert on search engine optimization for Realtors nor am I an Internet Guru. I'm a "bottom line" kind of person so .... bottom line: My experience tells me that it is a definite reality if you use the right tools and are given good, solid information.
