Selling Real Estate ... With A Twist!

When it comes to selling real estate, it's good to hear from experienced marketers, not just the real estate experts. They can often provide fresh ideas that can be applied to our businesses.

For example: Seth Godin, is a bestselling author, entrepreneur and agent of change.

In his book Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable Seth says that the key to success is to find a way to stand out.. to be the purple cow in a field of monochrome Holsteins.

Forbes.com refers to Seth as "a demigod on the Web, a best-selling author, highly sought after lecturer, successful entrepreneur, respected pundit and high-profile blogger. He is uniquely respected for his understanding of the Internet, and his essays and opinions are widely read and quoted online and off."

Here's how Seth illustrates the power of using stories as a strategy for selling real estate:

"Arthur Riolo is a world-class storyteller. Arthur sells real estate in my little town north of New York City. He sells a lot of real estate, more than all his competitors combined. That's because Arthur doesn't sell anything.

Anyone can tell you the specs of a house or talk to you about the taxes. But he doesn't. Instead, Arthur does something very different.

He takes you and your spouse for a drive. You drive up and down the hills of a neighborhood as he points out house after house (houses that aren't for sale). He tells you who lives in that house and what they do and how they found the house and the name of their dog and what their kids are up to and how much they paid.

He tells you a story about the different issues in town, the long-simmering rivalries between neighborhoods and the evolution and imminent demise of the Mother's Club. Then, and only then, does Arthur show you a house.

It might be because of Arthur's antique pickup truck or the fact that everyone in town knows him or the obvious pleasure he gets from the community, but sooner or later, you'll buy a house from Arthur. And not just because it's a good house. Because it's a good story."

Selling Real Estate With Another Twist!

Don't you get tired of being tarred with the brush of "Real Estate Agents are all the same." Do you know agents who have 'separated' themselves from the 'same old, same old' pattern of selling real estate? Are you one of them?

Tell your Community story!

Buyers decide on the community they wish to live in long before they choose a real estate agent.

When they visit your site and find all the current information/news about the community ... ("your story"), trust is established.

Do Not promote yourself on every page. Rather, advertise yourself in the real estate section of the site.

Your community website allows you to showcase your knowledge and expertise of the neighborhood. Buyers and Sellers want an expert with intimate knowledge of the neighborhood where they want to move to or sell.

Stand out from your competition. By being the neighborhood specialist, you are able to distinguish yourself and show you have more to offer than your competitors.

Another rewarding aspect of this 'community site' is your ability to help others. By creating a showcase for community activities, non profit organizations as well as other businesses, you are giving back to the neighborhood.

(And... since you are the only Realtor on the site, you will have the implied endorsement of the entire community.)
